PSHE / RSE: Statement of Intent, Implementation and Impact:
PHSE at Thornton-in-Craven aims to provide children with:
• Accurate and relevant knowledge.
• Opportunities to turn that knowledge into personal understanding.
• Opportunities to explore, clarify and if necessary, challenge their own and others’ values, attitudes, beliefs, rights and responsibilities.
• The skills, language and strategies they need in order to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced lives.
In Early Years, the PHSE curriculum is delivered through the Jigsaw scheme of work. From Years 1-6, classes follow the ‘You, Me and PHSE’ scheme. In an age-appropriate way, the following themes are covered repeatedly throughout the academic years.
- Relationships and Health Education (RHE) including Sex Education
- Drug, alcohol and tobacco education
- Keeping safe and managing risk
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Physical health and wellbeing
- Careers, financial capability and economic wellbeing
- Identity, equality and society
Children may also learn about elements of the above through other lessons such as Zones of Regulation, science, PE, history or RE, for example.
The PHSE curriculum is carefully sequenced so that children build on their learning from previous year groups. Please see the document below to understand how PHSE vocabulary progresses as the children get older.
Miss Brown is the subject leader. If you have any questions about the PHSE curriculum, she would be happy to answer these.
